A Concert of Wellbeing in Support of the Mary How Trust
Step into the exquisite surroundings of Champs Hill, set amidst landscaped gardens overlooking the Amberley Wild Brooks and the South Downs, for an evening of music, art, and inspiration.
This special concert offers a journey through classical favourites, world premieres, and jazz-infused performances, curated to delight and uplift. Guests are welcomed with a glass of Nyetimber sparkling wine and invited to explore the gardens, sculptures, and a remarkable exhibition of The Art of the Newlyn School, 1880–1940, launching at Champs Hill before it embarks on a two-year national tour. The display features 40 of the finest paintings, including works by the celebrated Stanhope and Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Dame Laura Knight, Harold Harvey, and a newly acquired Dod Procter portrait, an unmissable collection of Britain’s most treasured early twentieth-century artists.
The musical programme begins in the evening, opening with the world premiere of Reflections for piano and strings, composed by Roderick Elms. Maria Marchant performs Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue arranged by Louis Sauter, complemented by the slow movement from Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Following a pause to enjoy canapés and wine, the evening continues with an auction in aid of the Mary How Trust, led by Revd Rupert Toovey DL. The BMG Stradophonics close the show tunes from their excellent “Swing with Strings!” repertoire.
